Quick Search

    Quick Search dialog box
When you press any letter or numeric key, the Quick Search dialog box opens. Then all the files in the current list, having the typed letters will be listed. You can also search for text, enclosing it in quotation marks, like "text". Note, that when searching for text, the binary files are excluded. Also Unicode files. You can press F3 to view the files.

You may be also interested in ACFAT service.

Activating

To start Quick Search press Ctrl+J, or simply start typing letters.
To start Quick Search immediately with Subdirs searching, press Ctrl+Alt+J.
You can also open this tool in ACFAT mode. To do so, press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+J.

Subdirs  button. When pressed, Quick Search will read all the subdirectories of current directory and will build a list of files and directories being there. Then, whole list is searched when you type letters.

Lock  buttonUseful, when subdirectories searched. Normally, when Quick Search dialog box looses focus (because user clicks somewhere outside the dialog, or presses escape), this dialog is closed. So, the list of files and directories build when Subdirs button was pressed, is lost. If you frequently search for files in some folder and it's subfolders, it's good to lock the Quick Search dialog box, so it will never close.

Select all  button. All the files found will be selected in an active window.Disabled when Subdirs  button pressed.

Create ACL button. ACL is created with found files. About the ACL read here.

File name edit box. You define file names to find. Separate them with semicolon ";", like *.jpg;*.gif;*.gif. You can use regular expression notation here, like [0-9]*.jp?

Result list. In here found items are listed. One click to go to this file. Double click to go and close the dialog. F3 to run with Quick Viewer. Things change when Lock button is pressed. Then double click to go to the file.

Notes :

You can search for text in files, using quotation marks "". You cannot use Regular Expression here.
Press F3 to view the file.

If you want to find files which use a specific file, then select the file and press Alt+F12, this will launch Quick Search tool with the name of the file to find. E.g. you have a directory full of html files, and some images. You want to know which html files are using e.g. "image.gif" file. Then select "image.gif" and press Alt+F12.
